The Denton Black Film festival just wrapped up its 2018 festival and are gearing up for next year. The Denton Black Film Festival merges art and culture to bring Denton a broader perspective of Afro-cinema. Ranging from short films, to documentaries, to action flicks.
“This year was very busy. We put a lot into planning everything from the movies to the food. All of our efforts showed because the festival was great”! said Ebony about volunteering during the festival.
With so many Denton venues coming together to make the festival happen, DBFF aims to show off those hidden gems of Denton by incorporating local businesses. This is a major part to the success of the festival. Having the square, UNT, and Texas Women’s all gathering in their support, DBFF has the people in its corner.
“Denton is the best place to have this festival. The support of the city is what makes things go so smoothly”. Said Jazmine Harris, a music volunteer with DBFF.
The Denton Black Film Festival is not just for films. Music, food, poetry, and dance are just a few of the other niches that can be found at the festival. The festival focuses on versatility and being one that everyone can enjoy.
"This festival is bigger than a film festival. It is a people festival. We come. We learn. We enjoy. We take in cultures other than our own. It’s how things should be outside of those three days” said Tony E. a film volunteer for DBFF.
The annual Denton Black Film Festival had a great 2018 year and are beginning to gear up for year 3. With many upcoming volunteer meetings to discuss the planning of next years.
